Living with the 'Rents - Part 1

In case you missed it, The Cozy Keep is getting cozier. Like, a lot less square footage cozier. My husband and I moved in with my parents last week. Yeeeeeeaaaaaaaah. :)

Here's the post I shared on Instagram about the whole endeavor:

This is a new dresser, a new wall and a new view for The Cozy Keep. Why? My husband and I have belabored the pros and cons list of moving in with family in order to pay off student loans, and we finally decided to have a go at it. We've crunched the numbers time and time again, weighed our options, and came to the humbling decision to downsize for about a year and a half so that our life won't be dictated by loans for the next decade or more. We don't anticipate it to be easy, but we are eager to simplify our lives and take care of business. In the meantime, I'm eager for The Cozy Keep to keep pursuing DIY decor and projects, to branch out to other spaces, and to be challenged in creative endeavors. And I'm excited to keep sharing it all here! I'm also eagerly anticipating sharing our journey as we shape up our financial lives and hopefully find our own cozy keep in the coming years. Happy Saturday, friends! Keep it cozy!

Yeah, life's getting real. Adulting is getting, well, more adultier.

We're in for an interesting ride, friends. So naturally, I want to share the ride with you. Notice I titled this post "part 1". I want to chronicle this thing all the way through. The awkward, the funny, the triumphant, the good, the bad, the ugly, the everything. Why blog if ya can't be real, right?

To start us off with part 1, I want to share some non-negotiables I've already encountered over the past week. I hope you enjoy these as much as I do.

NON-NEGOTIABLE #1 - Sunday is laundry day for Mom. No one else. Just Mom. Don't you DARE think about freshening up those beagle-haired pillow cases. They can wait.

NON-NEGOTIABLE #2 - If Sully (our beagle) is in the house, the doors to EVERYTHING are closed and every room that has any merit is firmly blockaded.

NON-NEGOTIABLE #3 - If Dad is home, you have no claim to the ceiling fan in the living room. Get over it. Are you cold? There's a musky sweatshirt for that somewhere.

NON-NEGOTIABLE #4 - If Dad is home on a Sunday afternoon and you're anywhere in the vicinity, you're going on an errand to get ice cream. (Oh yeah, have fun eating that ice cream with the freezing ceiling fan overhead.)

NON-NEGOTIABLE #5 - This is a good one. Biscuits and gravy are Sunday's go-to breakfast menu. I think I can work with this one.

Overall, our first few weeks under a new roof have been pleasant. We've already paid off 2 debts and we're ready to karate chop some more. In the meantime, I'll be using my new bedroom closet to set up shop for some crafting opportunities. Nothing like storing your painting goods and polyurethane next to your Sunday best.

Have a great upcoming week, friends! I'll be back soon with some more wild adventures!
